PwC: Car sales in Russia may fall 1.1% to 1.47 mln units in 2021
MOSCOW, Oct 21 (PRIME) -- International consulting company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) expects new car sales in Russia to fall 1.1% on the year to 1.47 million units in 2021, the company said in a study seen by PRIME on Thursday.
Of the total, sales of local brands will fall 1.3% to 310,000 cars, of locally assembled foreign cars fall 1.2% to 919,000 units, and of imported cars fall 1.2% to 239,000 units.
According to the AutoStat analytical agency, sales of new cars in Russia fell 8.9% on the year to 1.486 million units in 2020.
PwC also forecasts that Russia will have 26,000 electric cars by 2024 and 600,000 units by 2030.
According to the chart presented in the study, Russia had 11,000 electric cars in 2020, with annual sales amounting to 700 units. PwC believes that sales of electric cars will increase to 7,000 units by 2024 and to 281,000 units by 2030.
The forecast is based on Russia’s recently adopted 2030 strategy for the development of electric transport. According to the strategy, electric cars will make up 15% of the car market by 2030.
